Bengaluru, 04th August 2025: Narayana Health, in collaboration with Volvo Group India and supported by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka, marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of its 75th Mobile Community Health Centre Camp and the launch of colposcopy screening services for cervical cancer detection.
Now in the third year of this impactful partnership, the ‘Wellness on Wheels’ initiative—guided by the visionary leadership of Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, Founder and Chairman of Narayana Health—aims to take high-quality healthcare to the doorsteps of the remotest villages across Karnataka. The objective is to screen as many people as possible across the district towns and rural areas of the state, empowering underserved communities with access to timely and essential diagnostic services.
According to recent estimates, cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among Indian women, with Karnataka reporting over 4,500 new cases every year. Rural women, in particular, face barriers to timely screening, which contributes to late-stage diagnoses and poor outcomes. The inclusion of colposcopy, a simple, non-invasive diagnostic procedure used to closely examine the cervix to detect precancerous changes at an early stage, in the ‘Wellness on Wheels’ initiative is a timely intervention aimed at addressing this gap.
So far, over 8,600 individuals have been screened by these mobile clinic medical camps, and at least 4-5% of participants identified with health abnormalities have been advised to seek early urgent treatment at nearby hospitals.
The initiative offers a wide range of diagnostic services, including ECGs, echocardiograms, mammograms, colposcopy, blood tests, and X-rays, as well as free doctor consultations.
Phase One of the initiative has successfully covered all taluk centres across nine districts of the state. Phase Two will extend to hobli-level camps, followed by gram panchayat-level outreach in the third phase.
Speaking at the event in Nagarbhavi, senior representatives from Narayana Health and Volvo Group India reiterated their commitment to bridging the healthcare access gap for underserved populations.
“Timely detection can make all the difference in saving lives. Through ‘Wellness on Wheels’, we bring essential health screening services closer to people’s homes—especially in remote communities—making early diagnosis more accessible, reducing the burden of travel, and enabling quicker medical intervention,” said Dr. Uthappa P M, Group Chief Medical Director, Narayana Health, Bengaluru.
At Volvo Group, we believe innovation should drive meaningful change for communities. Our collaboration with Narayana Health on the ‘Wellness on Wheels’ initiative allows us to proudly bring essential healthcare services to those who need them most. This milestone reflects our shared vision: improving lives and bridging healthcare gaps with mobility solutions,” said Mr. G V Rao, Director CSR & External Industry Affairs, Volvo Group India.
Accredited by NABH, JCI, NABL, and CAP, the diagnostic reports issued through these camps meet international standards of quality and precision. The public is encouraged to utilise these services and embrace preventive healthcare measures for improved well-being.
