Pune, India 22 August 2025: DPU Super Specialty Hospital, Pimpri, Pune, Pimpri, Pune, observed World Organ Donation Day with an inspiring event dedicated to promoting awareness about the life-saving impact of organ donation and the importance of ethical transplantation practices.
The event was graced by Professor Dr. Vatsala Trivedi, a pioneering figure in Urology and Organ Transplantation, as the chief guest. She was joined by senior leaders from the institution, including Dr. Vrishali Patil, Program Director, Multi- organ Transplant Programme, DPU Super Specialty Hospital, Pimpri, Pune; Dr. P. Vatsalaswamy, Director – Academics; Dr. A.L. Kakrani, Professor of Clinical Eminence & Director of Academic Collaboration; Dr. Hemant Deshpande, Professor & HOD, OBGYN; Dr. H.H. Chavan, Medical Superintendent; and Dr. Vilas Sable, HOD, Urology, Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune.
While addressing the gathering, Dr. Vatsala Trivedi congratulated living donors for their courage and selflessness, stating, “Society is inherently supportive of good causes. Because of this collective goodwill, so many recipients receive organs and a second chance at life. Organ donation is a humane act and when done ethically, it becomes the right thing to do.”
Dr. P. D. Patil, Chancellor, Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), Pimpri, Pune, expressed, “Organ donation is one of the most profound ways to serve humanity. Each transplant represents a commitment to preserving life, upholding ethical medical practice and advancing healthcare for the greater good. Our goal is to strengthen this programme at our hospital so that more patients can find a lifeline when they need it most.”
Dr. Bhagyashree P. Patil, Pro-Chancellor, Dr. D.Y Patil Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), Pimpri, Pune, said, “When a family chooses to donate, they create a legacy that reaches far beyond a single moment. Their decision brings healing where there is pain and possibility where there is uncertainty. We honour these choices and remain committed to expanding access to ethical and life-saving transplants.”
Dr. Vrishali Patil, Program Director, Multi- organ Transplant Programme, DPU Super Specialty Hospital, Pimpri Pune, said “Our organ transplant and donation programme has earned recognition as the ‘Best Brain Stem Death (BSD) Team in Maharashtra’ by ROTTO-SOTTO (Regional cum State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization – Western Region & Maharashtra). The journey from one life to another is not just about medical science, but about compassion, coordination and commitment. Each donation is a miracle and we thank every donor’s family for their extraordinary generosity.”
During the event, living donors who had given a new lease of life to their own family members were felicitated for their extraordinary courage and generosity. Transplant recipients were also honoured for their strength and the new life made possible through organ donation. Doctors, nurses and medical staff who have dedicated themselves to organ donation and transplantation throughout the year were also felicitated.
