New Delhi, Sep 7: India and Luxembourg are looking to give fresh momentum to their economic partnership, with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Luxembourg Deputy Prime Minister Xavier Bettel discussing greater cooperation in trade, investment and financial services.

Bettel arrived in New Delhi on Monday for a three-day official visit to India from September 7 to 9. His visit includes meetings in the national capital as well as engagements in Chennai, including a visit to IIT Madras and its Research Park and the inauguration of a new SES campus.

The talks come at a time when India is strengthening its economic engagement with European countries. Greater cooperation with Luxembourg could open more opportunities for businesses, investors and financial institutions on both sides, while also supporting stronger links with the wider European market.

Financial services are expected to remain an important part of the relationship. Luxembourg is a major European financial centre, while India has been rapidly expanding its digital finance and fintech ecosystem. Closer cooperation in these areas could encourage new investment, financial partnerships and technology-led business opportunities.

The two sides are also looking at emerging sectors such as fintech, artificial intelligence and space technology. These areas could create opportunities for startups, technology companies, research institutions and investors from both countries.

Bettel’s Chennai programme adds a strong technology and innovation dimension to the visit. His planned engagements at IIT Madras and the new SES campus underline the growing importance of research, digital technology and satellite-based services in the bilateral relationship.

For India, stronger ties with Luxembourg can help attract European capital and provide Indian companies with additional avenues to connect with European investors and markets. Luxembourg, meanwhile, can benefit from India’s rapidly expanding economy, technology sector and large consumer market.

The partnership also has significance beyond trade and investment. Closer cooperation in technology, finance, research and innovation can create new avenues for companies and institutions to work together and support long-term economic growth.

India and Luxembourg have maintained diplomatic relations for decades, and their engagement has gradually expanded into business, finance, technology and other areas. The latest discussions indicate that both countries are keen to build on this foundation and give greater economic depth to their relationship.

With Europe becoming an increasingly important partner for India, stronger ties with Luxembourg could add another channel for investment, innovation and business cooperation, benefiting companies and investors on both sides.
