28th May 2025: In a significant development for India’s mining sector, the Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO). Under this agreement, CMPDI will serve as the Independent Engineer for the Utkal-D & E coal blocks in Odisha.
The MoU was formalized at CMPDI’s RI-VII office in Bhubaneswar. Shri R.K. Amar, GM (Business Development), signed on behalf of CMPDI, while EDO–ED (P&T) represented NALCO. The agreement was officially handed over by Shri S.K. Bhar, Regional Director of RI-VII, along with his team.
This partnership underscores CMPDI’s expertise in technical consultancy, project oversight, and regulatory compliance within the mining industry. Acting as an Independent Engineer, CMPDI will help ensure transparent, safe, and environmentally responsible operations at the coal blocks, reinforcing the growing collaboration between public sector enterprises in advancing sustainable mining practices.
