SMIT College Hosts Inaugural Alumni Meet Celebrating Achievements in Library and Information Science

First Alumni Meet Organized by SMIT College’s Library and Information Science Department

The Department of Library and Information Science at SMIT College, near Berhampur, successfully organized its first alumni meet on campus. The event was graced by the President of the college, Shri Bhagwan Gantayat, as the Chief Guest. Distinguished Guests of Honour included Shri Jamula Shankar Narayan, Head of the Department of Library and Information Science at the Central University of Tripura; Dr. Rabindra Kumar Mahapatra, Head of the Department of Library and Information Science at Gitam University; Dr. Shiv Prasad Panda; and the Chairman of the college, Dr. Sitaram Panda.

In his address, the Chief Guest, Shri Bhagwan Gantayat, emphasized the importance and long-term benefits of alumni meets in fostering connection, collaboration, and growth within the academic community. Shri Jamula Shankar Narayan inspired attendees with his message on the significance of being good human beings in both professional and personal life.

Professor Dr. Rabindra Kumar Mahapatra delivered an insightful lecture on the relevance and advantages of digital libraries and the evolving landscape of information science. As part of the event, an online quiz competition was conducted for current students, with the winners receiving awards from the Chief Guest.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr. Rabindra Kumar Mahapatra, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the field of Library and Information Science.

The program concluded under the stewardship of the college chairman, Dr. Sitaram Panda. The success of the event was made possible through the dedicated efforts of faculty and staff members including Bibhuti Maharana, Jayant Kumar Sahu, Suraj Panigrahi, Artatran Mahapatra, and Vikas Maharana.
