Its legendary stand at Walong during the 1962 Sino-Indian conflict remains central to its identity, with the battalion’s valour recognized through five Vir Chakras and multiple Mentions in Despatches.

Lt Col Prem Andrews, author, said:

“This chronicle sets out to correct silence, not merely record events. It honours those who stood firm when outcomes were uncertain and recognition was scarce. Their courage shaped regimental character, and their story deserved to be told with clarity and conviction.”

The book also covers the battalion’s participation in the 1965 Ichogil Canal battles, 1971 Operation Cactus Lily, counter-insurgency operations in Nagaland and Assam, and prestigious deployments to Siachen, Operation Parakram, and Amarnath Yatra security duties. Joint exercises with the United States Army and exemplary performance at the Army War College, Mhow, further underscore the regiment’s enduring legacy of training, leadership, and operational excellence.

A Tribute Beyond Combat

Grit, Blood and Glory is more than a regimental history; it is a tribute to the unsung heroes of 6 Kumaon. The battalion’s motto, Valour Triumphs, resonates through every chapter, weaving operational detail with human stories and ensuring that the courage, resilience, and spirit of the Jangi Six are preserved for future generations.
