New Delhi, Sep 11: India’s young population is increasingly turning ideas into businesses, technology platforms and new opportunities, marking a significant shift in the country’s economic landscape, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Friday.

India’s Young Entrepreneurs Turn Ideas Into Businesses, Jobs and Growth

Speaking at the Global Fintech Fest 2026, Sitharaman highlighted that India’s demographic advantage is no longer just a future possibility. It is increasingly visible in the businesses, technologies and digital platforms being created by young Indians.

The shift from looking for jobs to creating businesses is opening a new chapter for India’s youth. Young entrepreneurs are using technology and digital infrastructure to develop solutions across financial services, healthcare, education, agriculture, commerce and other sectors.

This growing entrepreneurial culture is also important for the wider economy. New businesses can create jobs, attract investment, generate demand for goods and services and build new markets. As startups grow, they can also create opportunities for skilled professionals, small businesses and local suppliers.

India’s expanding digital ecosystem is making it easier for young entrepreneurs to start and scale businesses. Digital payments, online financial services and technology platforms have reduced several traditional barriers for businesses and allowed even smaller enterprises to reach customers beyond their local markets.

The country’s fintech sector is a strong example of this transformation. India’s digital financial infrastructure has created opportunities for businesses to develop products for millions of consumers while also expanding access to formal financial services.

At the same time, the rapid growth of technology is creating new challenges. Sitharaman also highlighted the need to address emerging risks associated with artificial intelligence as technology becomes more deeply integrated into businesses and everyday life.

For young entrepreneurs, access to capital, skills, mentorship and markets will remain crucial. A supportive ecosystem can help innovative ideas move beyond the early stage and become sustainable businesses capable of creating long-term employment.

The growing participation of young Indians in entrepreneurship also has implications for India’s demographic dividend. A large young workforce can become a powerful economic asset when it is supported by quality education, relevant skills, technology and opportunities to build businesses.

For the business community, the rise of young entrepreneurs means a larger pool of innovation and fresh ideas. It can also encourage established companies to collaborate with startups, invest in emerging technologies and develop new products for changing consumer needs.

The Finance Minister’s message therefore reflects a broader change in India’s economic story. The country’s young population is increasingly becoming not just a source of labour, but a source of ideas, innovation, investment and enterprise.

As more young Indians take the entrepreneurial route, their ability to turn ideas into sustainable businesses could play an important role in creating jobs, strengthening innovation and supporting India’s ambition to become a larger and more competitive global economy.
