Gandhinagar, Aug 12: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel felicitated three government hospitals on Wednesday for their outstanding contribution to organ donation and transplantation, after the institutions received national recognition for their work.
The three hospitals — the Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC), Ahmedabad Civil Hospital and New Civil Hospital, Surat — were recognised during the 16th Indian Organ Donation Day programme held in New Delhi.
IKDRC was honoured for its performance as a leading government hospital in organ transplantation. Ahmedabad Civil Hospital was recognised for its work as a non-transplant organ retrieval centre, while New Civil Hospital, Surat, received recognition for its brain stem death team.
The awards highlight the efforts of doctors, nurses, transplant coordinators and other healthcare workers who work behind the scenes to make organ donation and transplantation possible.
IKDRC has played an important role in providing transplant services to patients, while Ahmedabad Civil Hospital has contributed significantly to organ and tissue retrieval from deceased donors. The brain stem death team at New Civil Hospital, Surat, has also been involved in identifying and certifying potential donors and supporting families through the donation process.
Chief Minister Patel congratulated the hospitals and their medical teams, acknowledging their dedication to helping patients in need of life-saving transplants.
The recognition also brought attention to the families who make the difficult decision to donate the organs of loved ones after death. Such decisions can give critically ill patients an opportunity for a new lease on life.
Health officials said continued coordination among government hospitals, transplant organisations and medical teams is important to improve organ donation and ensure that viable organs reach patients waiting for transplants.
The state government is also focusing on creating greater public awareness about organ donation and encouraging more people to understand the importance of registering as donors.
The national recognition received by the three hospitals reflects Gujarat’s growing efforts to strengthen organ donation, retrieval and transplantation services and to make life-saving treatment available to more patients.
